Mommy needs coffee STAT
85 days old
The last few days have really been catching up with us. Thank goodness for 'Dr. Coffee', the coffee cart in the hospital.
It was a brisk 19 degrees today so Daddy opted for a hot coffee, but no matter how cold it is, I just do not like hot coffee. So I did another iced caramel macchiato- and it was just as fantastic as it was the first time!
Now, back to more important things:
The hospital is pretty quiet on the weekends. We requested that the doctors give us a call to be a part of rounds in the mornings. Since they round at different times each morning (sometimes 7am sometimes closer to 10) it's hard to be there in person everyday.
During rounds, the whole team goes over any results, how she did throughout the night- if she had any events, and the plan for the day. Today there were no changes to her plan. Gracie has gained weight again. She is a plump 8lb 8oz with plenty of chunky thigh and wrist rolls!
We also had a chance to ask questions. One being what timeline do the doctors anticipate after surgery. They weren't able to give us an exact answer, but said to anticipate a few weeks. She will be intubated for quite a few days, and very swollen. She will be in a ton of pain, and have to learn how to eat with her new tongue. As long as it takes, we will do whatever we have to for our girl!
I asked about if we can continue breastfeeding before her surgery here since she was so great at Yale. Since she is on 5 liters of flow, she cannot breastfeed right now. Babies must be on 2 liters or less of flow in order to breastfeed.
Hopefully she will continue to love it as much as she does now after the surgery. The neonatologist warned us that sometimes infants develop an aversion to it after surgery. So, for now, we pray that she will continue to love it and continue to throw fits when she is taken off the boob!
Gracies new room is nice. It is much quieter than the pod she was in. We were able to each snuggle her today and be comfortable in the room! Mommy was also able to pump today without a strange screen semi blocking her from the rest of the room.
Tomorrow will be more snuggles- and maybe another macchiato for mommy?
Praying for you all and for all the drs esp the ones doing her surgery on Wednesday. Love you all so much ❤🙏🏼❤
